Our Story

Walnuts Farm Store

We’re so pleased to be able to announce the launch of the Walnuts Farm Store online, and share with you a simple collection of carefully curated and commissioned pieces chosen with great care by Nick & Bella. These simple, beautiful objects are intended for every day use, indoors and out. You may remember Nick and Bella from their two series in Country Living magazine, or perhaps follow them on Instagram. Each object chosen to go in the store is inspired by Nick and Bella’s life and work on this small English farm and is a reflection of their personal taste and way of living. Glass, clay, wicker basketry are the natural materials and textures Nick and Bella like to have around the home and garden  – made by hand from the earth. And like many others who have lived off the land and grown their own food, Nick and Bella have come to appreciate that less really is more and that it makes for a happier life to surround oneself with a few, well made things that give pleasure every day. Available to purchase now. We ship internationally. We do hope you like what we have chosen to share with you.

Nick & Bella

Nick & Bella met, married and restored a small rundown farm, and then transformed it into a successful film and photographic shoot location house for clients including L’Oreal, John Lewis, Joules, Neal’s Yard, Net A Porter, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Homes & Gardens and Port magazines.

Their simple, modern rustic way of living was expressed in their pared-back interior style and lovely kitchen garden design. Their muted colour palette, choice of natural linens and textiles and preference for beautiful utilitarian objects with which to decorate the home, proved popular with stylists and art directors alike, and many of Nick and Bella’s favourite well-worn objects have now been recreated for Nick and Bella’s online Walnuts Farm Store, with the help of talented and skilled local crafts people.

Their food and lifestyle was featured in a twelve-part series ‘Savour Life at Walnuts Farm’ in Country Living magazine throughout 2014.  A second six-part series ‘A Taste of the Good Life’ in 2015 presented a beginner’s guide to starting a kitchen garden from scratch as well as how to rear sheep, pigs, poultry and bees for those who are enthusiastic but have little practical experience. This series was republished in German in Living At Home magazine through 2016.

Their first book The New Homesteader was published by Ryland Peters & Small in 2016, and republished in French by Eyrolles in 2017. In it Nick and Bella show a simple, manageable way of living off the land, with plenty of shortcuts, and a good dose of humour. The good life, along with all the inevitable disasters and mistakes that go with it, doesn’t have to be the hard life!

They now live with their daughters and dogs on the Dorset-Devon border.
